T-6 Hours to leaving LeasePlan

I'm finding it harder and harder to focus on work. I really need to finish up some things for the Spec Enhancement project, but all I can think about right now is the people I'm going to miss working with at LeasePlan. In fact as I was writing this, Donald Higgs, one of our switchboard operators, stopped by with a really touching card for me. I'm really going to miss the people here, and I hope that I can stay in contact with some of them at least.

On a more mundane note, I'm also trying to figure out what I'm going to do about a cell phone. My old one is LeasePlan's so I've got to find a new one. It was an old Motorola P280 phone and, with almost divine prescience of my imminent departure, the phone stopped working last night. I'm looking at a Motorola V600 to replace it, since that has BlueTooth (which will work well with my Palm Tungsten T3), and it is a quad-band world phone. My problem is that JBoss (my new employer) will pay for the plan if it is with TMobile, however I don't start with them until May 2nd. I'm looking into trying to get some kind of pre-paid SIM for the phone, but the TMobile approved pre-paid plans I see don't include that phone. I'm thinking that an unlocked V600 could still work with a pre-paid plan, but then I'm not sure about porting the number over to the new plan. More research is required...

Using Snapshot Isolation with SQL Server and Hibernate

In the course of working on some deadlock issues, I found that MS SQL Server exhibits some unexpected (to me, at least) locking behaviors that can affect performance and cause deadlocks. In the end, I found that SQL Server provides an isolation level called Snapshot isolation which removes the need for locks on rows and removes lock contention. Fedora, Ant, and Optional Tasks

I've tried to be good. I've tried a number of times to use the version of ant that Fedora packages up into an RPM from the JPackage repos rather than caving to the temptation to install it myself manually. I also like to use optional tasks like ReplaceRegExp in my scripts to do all sorts of cool things. Of course, I see most of the installation instructions that refer to ant via RPM mention that I need to yum install ant-apache-regexp to get my optional task jars installed for this very nice task. Every time I've tried this, ant yells at me saying that it can't find the taskdef class for ReplaceRegExp. Huh? But I installed the proper, RPMs...didn't I? Usually at this point, I fall back to what works and just install ant by hand. However, I've finally realized why I've had so much trouble with this.
